Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Seattle, Washington, is well known for its ongoing commitment to workplace diversity. As one of the most diverse cities in the country, Seattle’s lively and welcoming culture promotes a climate in which people from various communities and cultural backgrounds can prosper. Seattle’s workforce reflects a vast spectrum of cultures and backgrounds due to its population’s prominent ethnic, racial, and cultural combination. By enacting anti-discrimination laws and promoting equitable job opportunities, the city actively encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion. Many companies in Seattle place a high priority on diversity by enacting policies that facilitate both the recruitment and retention of personnel from different cultural backgrounds. These initiatives foster innovation, creativity, inclusivity, and teamwork among employees in addition to helping to create a more diverse workforce.

Scion Staffing Seattle is recognized for being a driving force in the staffing and recruiting industry’s advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). At Scion Staffing, we have made it part of our mission to make sure that organizations in the Seattle area, and all of Washington state, have access to a talent pool that increasingly reflects the rich diversity of the surrounding communities. From our equitable and inclusive hiring processes to our initiatives that foster a welcoming workplace to all people, our dedication to DEI is clear in every facet of our organization’s operations. With certified diversity recruiters on our local and remote teams, we pride ourselves on being able to provide diverse candidate options for a wide range of industries. Scion Staffing strategically uses sourcing techniques that increase the number of candidates from underrepresented groups in an effort to give all qualified candidates the same opportunity regardless of their race, gender, age, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic condition, or other protected class.

At Scion, we believe that diverse teams are not only a strength, but an essential part of success for any business and organization. This is why we recognize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as one of our core values. At the very core of our organization as a socially conscious diversity staffing agency, we are passionate about making sure that our clients do everything possible to promote and ensure that their entire hiring process, from application to interviews, is thoughtfully equitable, inclusive, and beneficial for all applicants, including those from a diverse background. Our recruiting and staffing firm maintains the willingness to ask questions and make best practice recommendations to our clients, candidates, and vendors to achieve this goal.

As your recruiting partner, we have made the conscious decision to not aid companies or organizations that are discriminatory, harass employees, or that do not foster a positive workplace environment. We have partnered with many clients who share a similar mission as ours, and we are excited to keep partnering with more amazing organizations that share these values. Our staff is dedicated to providing intentional recruitment support by being aware of and removing bias throughout our processes and continuing to be an industry leader by sharing best practices with our clients, candidates and internal staff.

Scion Staffing DEI Committee

Joshua Steele – Chair

I am proud to say that the growth and impact of the Scion Staffing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is having a multiplier effect on the interest and passion that our team brings to our work and clients. With DEI, there is an inherent, wide spectrum of where peoples’ interest and passion is.

Embracing diversity, equity, inclusion, representation, and an overall sense of belonging can significantly change perceptions of the world around you. Letting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging be a part of your approach to others in your personal and professional life creates an environment that people want to be a part of.

Sarah Kurhajetz

There are many benefits of incorporating DEI strategies into the workplace, but for me, the most important is creating a sense of belonging for employees. For employees to do their best work and to expand their professional capacity, it’s critical that they feel a sense of belonging with their colleagues. With a sense of belonging comes a feeling of trust and safety. When trust and safety are present, employees feel comfortable asking for help, taking risks, making mistakes (and learning from them), as well as providing support to their co-workers.
